This beautiful & intelligent breed of gun-dog called the German Short-haired Pointer - Der Deutche Kurzhaar - is highly ACTIVE, strong and enthusiastic to say the least. Rescued Dogs may NOT be suitable in homes with small children - animals and birds because you just don’t know their full history as regards whether they have been trained correctly, if at all: whether they have been associated with children or animals in the home - These dogs require a good association with their owners - well buried, and high fences and lots of TLC. and they will make a wonderful companion.
This breed rescue caters exclusively for GSP's in the South West of England. Both dogs and bitches are regularly accepted for rehoming due to their living circumstances having changed to become unacceptable for them (and/or their owners). Ages range from a few months right up to geriatrics of 12 or 13 years.
If you are looking for a German Shorthaired Pointer and genuinely want to help one who has suffered from maltreatment or become distressed due to changes in their owners life affecting them (being left alone all day, spouse moving away, etc.) or, if you are requiring to re-home your Gsp for any reason, then please do contact us. You are asked to go to our ‘forms’ page and submit as much detail on yourself and your environment and your dog as you would like - depending on whether you are wanting to adopt or surrender a Gsp - you will then be contacted by myself on the telephone to discuss any details that I think I should have.
Rescued GSPs are not a soft or cheaper option to investing in a new puppy. They require some common sense, patience and understanding of the circumstances of the dog and its needs. However, for those people who relish the challenge and take on a rescued GSP, the results can be very rewarding. We sometimes get asked for a rescued bitch or dog for breeding. Of course, a requisite for taking on a rescue is signing a form which precludes breeding from our rescued animals. We also withhold (if we get them) the Kennel Club registration certificates and pedigrees.
One of our 'homes' commented that her two GSP rescues are 'scarred mentally for life' by events from their past. We try to check out the mental and physical health of the dogs coming for rehoming and to assess them, as far as possible, in order that they may be placed in what we hope is the right home for them. We will take them back if things do not work out as expected - sometimes, again, due to the owner's jobs and routines changing.
German Shorthaired Pointers are very active and alert dogs who require human companionship, interesting, hunting-orientated daily exercise and a level of training to ensure that they are able to be controlled! They also need a healthy diet and veterinary care, when necessary.
If you would like to share your home and life with a rescued GSP; do please contact Dave Bishop on (01395) 568259 or email me at pointerman@lineone.net.
